Keeping the Spark

Eight years later, and here we are!  My life, too, has changed so much since our Route 66 road trip.  Instead of hoping my basement apartment stays free of floodwater (which was a valid concern back in 2006), now I'm hoping my husband and toddler can manage the week without me at the house our family owns.  Something deep inside of me needs these little adventures to keep the spark... and because I don't have sisters by blood, it is essential that I make special time to do these sorts of things with my chosen sisters every so often.  I'm so grateful to have such a supportive husband who gets it.

This trip is going to be nothing short of epic.  I boarded the airplane today and spent the next 9 hours of my day enjoying the company of me, myself, and I.  I rarely get so much alone time, and I relish it!  I finished some lingering work, read half of a book, took a nap, and made significant progress on my latest knitting project.  I landed in sunny California and felt a rush as I exited the secure area of the airport only to look up and see the smiling face of Emily.  We screamed, then giggled, then embraced.  And then we went out to the curb to be picked up by a very pregnant, beautiful Marcia.  The Route 66 Pirates were reunited, and it was only fitting to start our week together this way.

We enjoyed a tasty Italian dinner in San Carlos with Marcia, her husband, Paul, and her visiting cousin, Sam, and then we spent the evening hanging out at her house.  Happy.
