California on my mind
Tomorrow we embark on what could be described as the return trip to our 2006 Route 66 road trip. But it doesn't quite feel that way...
Kristina joined Marcia and I on our original journey from east coast to west coast residents. In my silver Subaru Forester, we set out from Harrisburg, working our way to Chicago, and then followed most of Route 66 all the way to the Santa Monica Pier. (The entire adventure is still documented below.) I was wide-eyed and ready to conquer the world. I needed a new chapter in my life to start.
Today, I'm just ready to see my nephew and niece more often. My expectations are fewer, because I know better than to expect. The world and me, we've had a lot of good experiences, and some trying ones. So while it seems my now black (and manual) Subaru Forester is headed full circle, I know I have many more destinations left in my journey. We changed the name and url of the blog because our trip started to play out like those Choose Your Own Adventure books from our childhood, encouraging kids to be the 'star of the story.' But for the plot twists and turns my life has taken in the last eight years, it feels even more applicable.
Tomorrow we embark on our more northern adventure. And I really couldn't ask for a better star in my story than K.
